Do you see the beauty in this icicle like I do?

Icicles are beautiful at first sight but beware of their power.  They can tear off gutters, loosen shingles, and cause water to back up in your house. The after effects of this happening include warped floors, sagging ceilings, soggy insulation in your attic, and a magnet for mold and mildew.

Tips to prevent and fix an ice dam:

• Use heated cables along the roof’s edge
• Blow in cold air to the underside of your roof
• Rake off the snow with a long-handled aluminum roof rake
• Ventilate eaves and ridges
• Cap the hatch
• Exhaust to the outside
• Add insulation
• Install sealed can lights
• Flash around chimneys
• Seal and insulate ducts
• Caulk penetrations
